The New Freedom VFW Post 7012 hosted a Memorial Day Service at the New Freedom Cemetery on May 25, 2015. The William Penn Senior High School ROTC, under the leadership of retired Army Major James Skinner, and members of the American Legion participated in the ceremonies. Retired Army Lt. Col. J. T. Hand was the guest speaker. Commander Rick Smith presented $250 to the Patriots Pen Essay Contest Winner, Danielle Hughes of New Freedom. Danielle read her essay, “Why I Appreciate America’s Veterans.” The Broadbecks Band, under the direction of Karl Steger, entertained with a medley of patriotic songs. The Post served a lunch to all attendees afterwards at the VFW Hall.
